ANTONIO CITTERIO’S NEW DESIGNS FOR B&B ITALIA MAXALTO
Salone del Mobile 2019 sees the launch of a series of new elements in Maxalto’s collection that direct the brand’s rich history towards the future. Apollo is a new range of upholstered furniture, composed of three sofa types that balance linear and curved shapes in a fluid composition. Its geometry accommodates gentle movements of the body and evoke a sense of relaxation and being at ease. Apollo’s fabric covers feature a raised stitch detail while the leather covers are joined with envelope stitching.
Presented first in 2017, Caratos is expanding this year with a small armchair with armrest, an armchair, a tub armchair, two stools with swivel seats, a bench, an ottoman and a coffee table. The new additions to the range are marked by the range’s characteristic die-cast aluminum base. The metal structures’ graphite and amber colors are accompanied by blue, amaranth and cream varnishes, which create a pleasing harmony with the fabric covers.
Designed with dedicated craftsmanship, Tesaurus is a new series of timeless storage units that feature curved wooden doors and slightly protruding shelves. The veneered oak or Chilean tineo wood materiality of Tesaurus is highlighted by the woven pattern evoked by the surfaces’ crossed gains. Tesaurus’s sophisticated hues are achieved by parchment covering – a meticulous process performed by craftsmen who are trained to respect the natural material and its values.
Accompanied by an unusually-sized headboard, the new Dike bed is characterized by two panels, each 2m high and 125cm wide, anchored by a full-height hinge. Dike uses an ad-hoc designed fabric with an enhanced three-dimensional texture of playful light and visual effects that gently merge into each other. Maxalto’s new range, complete with an addition to the Jens chair range, is designed with mindful craftsmanship and elevates the collections with a touch of renewed sophistication.
