New multi-tenant office building with rooftop garden, auditorium
Succeeding NEXXT Fastweb Headquarters and Piazza Adriano Olivetti in the development of the Symbiosis business district, Building D represents a new multi-tenant office building and the next piece in the urban and environmental regeneration program of the area. Its area of 15,700 sqm is composed of two superimposed volumes: a three-floor-high portion cantilevering towards via Orobia with a landscaped garden cover on top, and a volume comprising 8 floors with generous spatial arrangements. Underground, the office building is endowed with a parking garage that provides space for 263 automobiles and 30 motorbikes. The North-South orientation of the suspended volume of Building D underscores the directionality of the entire masterplan, generating two glass fronts to the East and to the West – amplifying the depth of the urban surroundings and highlighting the characteristics of the industrial urban fabric. In turn, the design of the smaller volume, integrating glass elements, emphasizes the structural force necessary to support the cantilevering extension. Beyond its primary office function, Building D also comprises an auditorium with a capacity of more than 200 seats and accessible through a separate entrance that is directly linked to the hanging landscape-designed terrace on the roof of the smaller volume. The building establishes a new urban architecture that has the capacity to engender a symbiotic relationship between elements of the historic city and the contemporary city with its new architectures and innovations. The new development extends further the realm and use of public spaces with a water garden surrounded by a series of walkways and green spaces – designed in collaboration with Carlo Masera.
